Now we are getting somewhere
4/6/2009
Last night I walked through the village looking for the Jr. High School science teacher who also happens to be a very good friend. When I found him, we talked about how I wanted to hold a meeting with the village to ask if there was anyone interested in forming a committee that will help plan projects with me for the community. I think it is the best plan of action since I will not be living in Togo forever and this way the committee can continue without me.
The professor and I met the president of the CVD, then the president of the women in village, and finally a notable who promised that after Easter he will call the village together and discuss what we can do.
Now that it is the start of the rainy season, I wander my village to find no one. Everyone is at the farms planting crops. They do not come home for lunch half the time, it is not until evening that I see anyone at all. Sundays after church is really the only free day and it leaves me restless knowing that time is going by quickly and I want to help as much as I can. The job of the volunteer is not only giving information about importance of education, health, small business aid or working with natural resources, you also have to become a motivator to a population of people who really have only just met you. At the sama time you realize how much you have changed and the view of the world has gotten much bigger.
LATER
Today was slow. Everyone is at the farm with the exception of the people working at the health center and the man at the telephone cabine. Now that school is having a small vacation it has left me with cleaning my house (ants are annoying when they get in your jelly) and writing out project plans and ideas to share with the village. Of course I am also keeping my post notebook up to date as well.
It is very hot today and I hope it will rain soon.
PS I got a cat the other day, a few months old, a female. I named her Gossamer in honor of Sara G. Maybe it will help decrease the mouse population a bit.
Lots of love

Thanks :) I miss you and love you both very much I hope you are well and I will call you soon when I have money again. xoxo
Dear Jessica,
Do you realize that you have been there almost seven months???? Wow...You're good...You're tough...You're very, very special...You have fortitude and guts...I am sorry you are getting a little lonely while everyone is working in the gardens...I hope that if you need help, in any kind of emergency, that it will be nearby...I am sorry about the ants...and the mice, but I am glad you have a kitty to keep you company...I hope you train it to be a watchcat, which can be done, as cats are really, really smart..My cat, Peachy Keen, II, is my little protector...he can spot a spider in the dark when I can't even see it in the light...and I have great eyesight...he knows if someone is outside the front door to the apt., and will wake up out of a sound sleep and point to the door...he sleeps on my feet..he's "a person in a 'catsuit!!'" and he's an entertainer, as he has a lot of tricks...
Glad you're keeping up your notes...Always watch your back, and stay safe...
I love you...
Grandma Andrea XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
Ma soeur,
Thanks Jess for the grats. I'm glad that you are ok. Whenever you feel like it is too rough out there just remember: You could be home having to color easter eggs. Although you probably would like that eh? Start working on getting my air fare to togo so I can take a vacation. I can marry a bunch of women there that want to get citizenship(joking granny and granddad =p). I hope that you continue your great accomplishments. I know that you can do it because you are only person in our family that seems to be able to finish what you start. I get out of PJC in May which is cool. I'll get to follow in you footsteps and make some new ones of my own. I love you.
Randall
PS. By the way, you know it is almost the First of May...you know what that means right?
Edit: your instead of you
Je t'adore.

Hi, Miss Jessica,
Yeah, what's wrong with coloring Easter eggs, anyway??? Peachy and I do it every year, whether we're home alone, or whatever...it's fun...I may even go to Church, but I hope it doesn't fall down, because I haven't been there in a loooooooong time...I'll pray for you....hope you and your mother and your brothers also go to a church on Easter...
Your Aunt Teri had an operation today and seems to be alright...I called her once and she called me twice...she sure is a tough chick, and I don't know how she does it...noone deserves to go through all of the pain and operations she's gone through...let's hope she's up and running around soon, and maybe we could even teach her to ride a bicycle again, in time...
Happy, Happy, Happy Easter, "Sister Jessica." I love you....
Grandma Andrea XOXOXOXOXOXOXO
